Classic Dixie Fair
Like every year, Winston-Salem is the host of the Dixie Classic, a large fair full of “good” (as in tasty) food, great rides and fun entertainment. The weather couldn’t have been better and after 1 hour spent finding a parking spot, riding a shuttle to the entrance and staying in line to buy tickets, we were finally in.
Olivia didn’t know where to look. There was so much going on. But once on the carousels, nothing else mattered. She got to ride with me in the “old cars” carousel where she was able to practice her great driving skills. When it was time to leave and I went ahead to unbuckle the seat belt, she began to cry. The girl in charge of the ride felt bad and gave her another ride for free. She’s already getting special treatments thanks to her good looks.
Then she got to ride the firetrucks carousel alone. No parents allowed. We were a little worried in the beginning. What if she didn’t like it? But she did and this time there was no freebie at the end of the ride. The smile on her face turned into tears, which quickly dried out when we opened the bag of maple cotton candy (Barbapapa in French).
