Healthy Living Exposition

Healthy Living Exposition became a challenging project when I decided to move from a static HTML website to a Wordpress website. Being relatively new at Wordpress, building a template from scratch was no easy task. But a little bit of hard work and a lot of “Googling” around finally paid off.

I wanted to create a clean website where information could easily be found. I stayed away from complex graphics and flashy colors and adopted a 3 column layout to organize the constant flow of information coming to me on a daily basis.

Thanks to the flexibility of Wordpress, the website was quick to update once built. The website went live in the beginning of January and got a lot of hits since then.

Bernardin’s Fine Dining

Following the success of the Bleu’s website, Freddy Lee decided to revamp the website of his other renowned Winston-Salem restaurant: Bernardin’s. Following the same trend as Bleu’s, this new website had to be built entirely in Flash.

The use of Flash allowed me to have a constant slideshow running in the background. The photos helped introduce the hip atmosphere of the restaurant and a few gastronomic specialties straight from the menu.

The content is displayed on top of the slideshow in a semi-transparent sliding box. Each time a user selects an item from the navigation, the box slides from left to right (or vice versa) and displays the appropriate content.

The website also features a music track that can easily be toggled on and off and a Flash/PHP based contact form.

Bleu Restaurant And Bar

Months before the grand opening, Freddy Lee wanted to promote his brand new restaurant, Bleu Restaurant And Bar. The restaurant matches an electric atmosphere with food, service, wine and beverage in an affordable, casual, yet upscale manner. Freddy wanted a Flash website much like websites for trendy and upscale New York restaurants. I usually do not recommend full-blown Flash websites. They can be difficult to navigate and search engines don’t like them much. However, it seems that most fancy restaurants are still fond of them.

In search of a perfect combination to make my client, users and search engines happy, I came up with a cross between HTML and Flash. I tried to keep the Flash animation to a minimum allowing users to access information as quickly as possible while retaining some eye-candy elements such as the navigation roll-overs and the slideshow transition effects.
